LEGO Art Gustav Klimt - The Kiss (31221): 4,000 Pieces, the Largest Art Masterpiece Set Yet
Gustav Klimt - The Kiss (31221) goes on sale on 1 August 2026, with LEGO Insiders getting first access via LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores. General availability follows on 4 August at LEGO Stores and select retailers. Priced at £269.99 / $299.99 / €299.99, the set contains 4,000 pieces and is rated 18+.

Measuring 60cm x 54cm (23.5 in x 21 in), this is the largest LEGO Art Masterpiece set released to date - the World Map aside. At roughly 6.75p per piece, the price-per-brick maths holds up reasonably well given the number of decorated and specialist elements involved.
Painted between 1907 and 1908, The Kiss stands as the centrepiece of Klimt's "Golden Phase", a period shaped by his encounters with Byzantine glass mosaics during travels to Ravenna, Italy. The painting depicts two lovers entwined in an embrace on the edge of a flower-strewn meadow, their bodies cloaked in elaborate robes adorned with gold leaf, silver, and platinum. The original hangs permanently at the Belvedere Palace in Vienna, and LEGO worked directly with the Palace to develop the set - a collaboration that shows in the faithfulness of the ornamental detail.

Rather than a flat mosaic, the model is a three-dimensional interpretation of the painting, which makes it a more engaging build prospect than the earlier tile-based LEGO Art layouts. A large pool of golden elements alongside specially decorated pieces recreates Klimt's signature circles, spirals, flowers, and elaborately adorned robes. Master Model Designer Milan Madge described the challenge of capturing those rich textures and golden tones using specially decorated elements while honouring the original masterpiece.

To put Klimt's cultural standing in context: in late 2025, his Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer (1914-1916) sold at Sotheby's for US$236.4 million, making it the second most expensive painting ever sold at auction.

A companion podcast with Madge and Belvedere curator Stephanie Auer launches on 1 August, available on Spotify and YouTube - worth having on in the background during the build. For serious LEGO Art collectors, this is the most compelling release in the line for some time.
Available from 1 August (Insiders) and 4 August (general) at LEGO.com and LEGO Stores.
