The LEGO Editions Formula 1 helmet line has, until now, covered only current drivers - Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, Oscar Piastri, and Lando Norris. Set 43024 breaks that pattern entirely, heading back to 1988 and Senna's first World Championship season at the wheel of the McLaren MP4/4. It is the first helmet in the series built around a historical driver, and it's an obvious choice.

Senna's yellow dome with green and blue bands - drawn from the Brazilian flag - is arguably the most recognisable helmet design in Formula 1 history, worn virtually unchanged throughout his entire career. The build captures that colour layout faithfully. Nearly all decorations are printed rather than stickered; only the visor relies on stickers. LEGO has also developed new printing technology that allows graphics to appear on the back of the motorcycle helmet element for the first time. The period-accurate sponsorship logos are a genuine highlight: the retro BOSS branding and the now-defunct Nacional logo both appear, giving the set an authenticity that will land hard for anyone who grew up watching Senna race. The Marlboro logo is absent, as tobacco branding and LEGO have never mixed - though third-party sticker makers will almost certainly fill that gap.

The included Ayrton Senna minifigure is one of the more thoughtful touches in the range. He's rendered with the Seninha character worked into the design, his race suit half-worn with the sleeves tied - personal rather than generic. Crucially, he also comes with a miniature race helmet, addressing a complaint that dogged earlier sets in the series. The set is completed by a signature display plaque, which gives the finished model a proper collector's feel. If you want a fully suited Senna minifigure in a racing context, 10330 McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna is the natural companion piece.

At 931 pieces for £79.99, the value is consistent with the rest of the helmet range at roughly 8.6p per piece. Rated 14+, this is firmly aimed at adult fans and older teens. The helmet format is one of the more shelf-friendly display builds around - substantial enough to make an impression without demanding an entire cabinet.

Senna's profile has only grown in recent years, partly through the Netflix documentary, and this set looks well placed to be among the most popular the collection has seen. With LEGO Editions now dipping into F1 history, the roster of legendary helmets available to them opens up considerably.
