LEGO Super Mario Wave Gains an Eighth Set: Fire Luigi vs. Koopa Troopa Battle
An eighth set has surfaced in the new LEGO Super Mario minifigure wave, having been delayed in appearing on LEGO.com when the rest of the line-up was listed. Fire Luigi vs. Koopa Troopa Battle (72061) joins the seven sets covered in our earlier article, completing the wave ahead of its January 2027 launch.
Priced at £26.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 and built from 241 pieces, it arrives on 1 January 2027 alongside the rest of the wave. At its core is a battle scenario in which Fire Luigi must reclaim a tower occupied by Koopa Troopa.
Two minifigures are included: Fire Luigi and Koopa Troopa. Both are traditional LEGO minifigures - a format that is new to the Super Mario theme, which has used interactive electronic figures exclusively since its 2020 launch.
A cannon mechanism allows players to launch Fire Luigi up onto the tower, driving the central play action. ? Blocks feature in the build as well, with one revealing a Fire Flower when activated.
Set 72061 rounds out the eight-set wave that marks the first use of traditional minifigures across the Super Mario theme in its history. It is a notable format shift after five years of the theme's signature electronic figure system.
