F1 The Movie Gets the Speed Champions Treatment with Black and Gold APXGP Racer

LEGO's bringing a bit of Hollywood glamour to the Speed Champions line with the APXGP Team Race Car from F1 The Movie (77252), landing on shelves come New Year's Day. This 268-piece set captures the fictional racing team from the film that hit cinemas back in June, and at £22.99, it's standard price for a Speed Champions set.

The standout feature here is definitely that black and gold livery. It's a proper eye-catching colour scheme that should look the business on display, and the set includes authentic Pirelli tire details that add a nice touch of realism. You get minifigures of both main characters - Sonny Hayes and Joshua Pearce - complete with their own decorated racing helmets, which is a thoughtful inclusion for fans of the film.

Whilst it's not going to set the world alight in terms of groundbreaking building techniques, it does what Speed Champions does best - delivers a recognisable vehicle that's fun to build and display. The movie tie-in adds some novelty, though I suspect the appeal might be more limited than, say, a real F1 team car. Still, for anyone who enjoyed the film or just fancies a sleek-looking racer for their collection, this looks like a solid addition to the Speed Champions stable.

The set should be available through LEGO stores and the usual retailers from January 1st.
