Six million LEGO bricks create massive playground in Seoul's city centre

Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square has been transformed into what might be the world's largest LEGO playground using six million bricks. The installation runs until 12th May and features life-sized builds including cars you can actually sit in, giant flowers, and interactive play areas.

The scale is genuinely impressive. LEGO brought in master builders to create structures that tower over visitors, with some builds reaching several metres tall. Kids can climb through tunnels, pose with oversized minifigures, and even help add bricks to collaborative builds throughout the week.

This isn't just a marketing stunt - it's part of LEGO's push to bring building into public spaces. Similar events have popped up in Times Square and Trafalgar Square, but Seoul's version appears to be the largest yet. The company has been increasingly focused on experiences rather than just selling sets, particularly in Asian markets where these interactive events draw massive crowds.

For families visiting Seoul, it's free entry and open from 10am to 8pm daily. The builds will be dismantled after the event, though LEGO hasn't said what happens to all those bricks afterwards.

Probably the most a bit steep temporary playground ever created, but watching kids discover building on this scale makes the point about play being universal better than any advert could.
