Pre-orders have just opened for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Set for a May 2026 release, this isn't just another quick cash-in on the Batman license - the developers appear to be taking their time to craft something properly substantial.
We're getting Bruce Wayne's complete journey from his early days training with the League of Shadows right through to becoming Gotham's protector, with a full open-world city to explore. That's a refreshing change from the more linear LEGO games we've seen recently. The roster is impressive too - Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and even Catwoman and Talia al Ghul, each with their own unique gadgets and abilities.
Over 100 different suits and outfits drawing from Batman's entire legacy across films, TV, comics, and games? That's the sort of detail that makes LEGO games special. Add in more than 20 vehicles including the Tumbler, and you've got serious replay value for both kids and adults who grew up with different versions of Batman.
At $69.99 for the standard edition (roughly £55), it's positioned as a premium release, but that's become fairly standard for major games these days. The real question is whether it'll deliver enough content to justify that price tag over the 8-10 hours most LEGO games typically offer.
The May 2026 release date gives me hope they're not rushing this one. After some of the more forgettable LEGO games in recent years, taking the time to get it right feels like the smart approach. Worth keeping an eye on, especially if you've got young Batman fans at home.
