LEGO's New SEGA Genesis Controller GWP Takes Me Right Back to the 90s

Now that the Hogwarts back to school promotion has ended on LEGO.com, LEGO have released a SEGA Genesis Controller (40769) as their latest Gift With Purchase. This 260-piece set is now available on the LEGO Shop with any purchase over £115, and, it's got me feeling all sorts of nostalgic.

What makes this particularly clever is the attention to detail. You get the classic three-button controller design that'll have any 90s kid grinning, but LEGO's added a lovely microscale Green Hill Zone scene on the back. That's the sort of thoughtful touch that shows they really understand what makes these gaming tributes special. The set even includes stickers for both Genesis and Mega Drive branding, so whether you're Team America or Team Europe, you're sorted.

The controller itself should make for a decent display piece - it's recognisable enough that non-LEGO folks will know what it is, and compact enough that it won't dominate your shelf.

The promotion runs until 18th September, but these gaming-themed GWPs tend to be quite popular, so I wouldn't hang about if you're planning a LEGO purchase anyway. It's one of those sets that perfectly captures a moment in gaming history while being genuinely fun to build and display. https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/en-gb%2Fproduct%2Fsega-genesis-controller-40769
