LEGO's Gingerbread AT-AT (40806): A Festive Imperial charm
LEGO's been having a proper go at Star Wars holiday sets lately, and 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT might just be their most charming effort yet. After that rather exclusive candy cane X-wing that only LEGO employees got their hands on in 2019, it's nice to see something festive that the rest of us can actually buy.
The concept is delightfully daft when you think about it - taking one of the Empire's most menacing war machines and turning it into something you'd find at a Christmas market. But somehow, it works. The reddish-brown colour scheme genuinely evokes gingerbread, and those white "icing" details give it just enough festive flair without going overboard.
What impressed me most is how they've managed to keep the AT-AT's iconic proportions whilst incorporating the gingerbread theme. The legs still have that unmistakable stance, and the head retains its imposing presence - it's just dressed up for the holidays now. The build technique appears solid, though I'd be curious to see how stable those legs are given the seasonal decoration additions.
This feels like one for the adult fans rather than the kids, to be honest. It's the sort of thing that'll look brilliant on a shelf during December, then pack away nicely until next year. The price point seems reasonable for what you're getting, though without knowing the exact piece count, it's hard to judge the pounds-per-piece value properly.
After what's been a rather mixed bag for Star Wars sets this year, it's refreshing to see LEGO take a creative risk that pays off. Sometimes the best sets are the ones that make you smile before you even open the box, and this gingerbread walker definitely manages that.
