LEGO Makes Shrek Official with Two New Sets for June
LEGO has confirmed two Shrek sets after accidentally leaking images on their South Korean social media accounts last week. The 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots (1,403 pieces, £119.99) and 40923 Shrek, Donkey & Gingy BrickHeadz set both arrive on 1st June.

The main set builds a 24cm tall display piece featuring all three characters. Puss in Boots is clearly scaled down to work as a minifigure rather than matching the brick-built Shrek and Donkey, which feels like a compromise for the sake of including a proper minifig in the box.

The BrickHeadz trio gives you Shrek, Donkey, and Gingy (the gingerbread man) in the familiar oversized head format. You know, at roughly £40, it's the cheaper entry point if you fancy some Shrek on your shelf without committing to the full display piece.

Both sets celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary, though worth saying puts the original film from 2001 - showing how long these licensing deals can take to materialise. The main set works out to about 8.5p per piece, which sits in LEGO's usual range for licensed display models.

This feels like LEGO testing the waters with Dreamworks properties beyond the occasional How to Train Your Dragon appearance. The question is whether there's enough appetite among adult builders for Shrek to justify the price point, especially when competing for shelf space with other display sets.
