21369 The X-Files is official. LEGO Ideas has revealed the set ahead of an August 2026 release, with Gillian Anderson appearing in a short cinematic film to mark the announcement - playing a version of herself who uncovers the model piece by piece. When the actress who played Dana Scully across nine seasons and two films shows up for the reveal, it suggests the final product respects the source material rather than treating the licence as a box-ticking exercise.
At 1,478 pieces with an 18+ rating, it is priced at £179.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 - roughly 12p per piece, about standard for a licensed Ideas set of this scope. It launches for LEGO Insiders on 1 August 2026, with general availability from 4 August, exclusive to LEGO.com and LEGO Stores.
The build stacks three distinct sections: Fox Mulder's basement FBI office at the base, a forest clearing above it, and a UFO hovering on a transparent stand at the top. The forest works as a standalone display and Mulder's office opens to reveal the interior. You can display the whole thing stacked or split the two dioramas separately, which is useful if shelf space is tight.
Eight minifigures are included: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman, and a grey alien with a brand-new moulded head. The Flukeman is the standout - deep-cut characters like that rarely survive the Ideas review process. The roster is generous for a set targeting fans of the show.
The reference density throughout is high. The office includes the "I Want to Believe" poster, pencils lodged in Mulder's ceiling, sunflower seeds on the desk, an X-Files dossier, and a "The Truth is Out There" tile. The finished model also stays notably close to the original fan submission, which is a real credit to the designer.
That designer is Brent Waller, a Brisbane-based 3D artist who goes by wetwired on LEGO Ideas. He first built the office in 2014 during a rewatch of the series and later submitted it for the Build Your Nostalgia - 90s Throwback challenge, which it won.
21369 arrives on the same day as 21370 E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and 21372 La Catrina, making it a busy start to August for LEGO Ideas. The X-Files ran from 1993 to 2002, with a revival in 2016, which puts the core audience squarely in the adult collector bracket. There is nothing here aimed at a child who did not grow up with the show, and that is by design.
